Love the Journey: Finding Gratitude for Where You Are

You and I both have goals about what we want to do or how we want life to go. Working toward aspirations is a wonderful and fulfilling part of life. And if you can love the journey, you’ll find it all the more enjoyable!

If you become so closely attached to what you want down the road, you may begin to resent where you are right now.

This is a problem on a few levels. It makes the journey less fun overall. It makes you anxious and desperate for change. And it brings down your vibes.

No matter what you’re going after or how far away that might be, it pays to be grateful for your situation as it is right now.

Enjoy the journey

No matter what your goals are or what you want to do, you’re going to spend a considerable amount of time working toward them. Doesn’t it make sense to invest some energy in making that journey more enjoyable?

Slow down, look around, and find the little things to enjoy along the way. Remember that achievement is not the only exciting part. Everything that leads up to it is fun as well, as long as you let it be.

An important note here: choose a path that can be fun for you. While there can be good in any journey, if you put yourself down a miserable path, it’s going to be a lot harder. If you only look forward to the end goal, maybe reconsider what you’re going after.

Imogen Roy puts it beautifully: “If you’re not enjoying the process, what makes you think you’ll enjoy the destination?” Read her full post here.

Love where you are

With a romanticized idea of what you want your life to look like, it’s easy to dislike where you are.

Comparing your ideal life to where you are now creates an unfair reference point. This makes what you have now seem lame. While it’s good to have a clear goal in mind, do yourself a favor and don’t make that the expectation for this moment.

No matter where you live or what you do for work or the excitement level of your social life, there’s value in you leaning into it and loving it.

Make the best of where you are now. While better things may be in store for you soon, you’ll miss so many opportunities for fun if you make your current situation the enemy.

Attraction via attitude

What you find in life is a direct reflection of your attitude. What you put out there is brought back to you. Not by mystical forces but by the way you perceive reality.

The same situation, viewed with different attitudes, leads to entirely different experiences. Looking upon your current situation with gratitude, you find joy for where you are. New opportunities seem so much more abundant.

As you pursue bigger and better things, recognize that your attitude is your greatest tool.

Love the journey, always

Life has many routes and will take you to many places. By setting goals and working toward your aspirations, you can create some truly wonderful things for yourself.

But embrace the now. In all you do, remember to find a deep appreciation for where you are right now. Approach the moment at hand with presence and the intention to savor.

Choosing to appreciate your current situation builds happiness you can take with you wherever you go! Creating gratitude now brings happiness thereafter.
