How to Take Life Less Seriously

Life has near endless possibilities for what you can do. Finding a path amid the landscape of possibility adds meaning but perhaps also rigidity. It’s important to find ease in it all, so let’s talk about how to take life less seriously.

Taking life less seriously doesn’t have to mean that you don’t care about things and treat your life as a joke. After all, your life has deep meaning, and you have the abilities and potential to make an extraordinary impact.

But sometimes, there can be an aura of pressure to be exceptional and do fantastic things. With that affecting you, it’s easy to add stress to your life and expect more from yourself.

The expectations, however, aren’t always helpful. You may start to expect, maybe even demand, perfection from yourself. This requirement of perfection, even if it’s just here and there, makes you a bit more rigid.

Less flexibility means less of an ability to adapt, go with the flow, and soar in the breeze. That’s when you know it’s time to take things a little less seriously.

Use these three strategies to relax and have a little more fun!

Laugh at yourself

In pursuit of good things with good intentions, we all make mistakes. It’s bound to happen. Find the humor in it. Laugh when you hilariously fail or do something wrong.

A key marker of somebody bound for success, both in terms of eventual results and enjoyment along the way, is the ability to laugh at themselves.

Celebrate your victories, and laugh at your failures. A good attitude toward mishaps makes you more able to learn from them and find joy in the process.

Find silver linings

Bad things are bad only because we believe them to be so. Failure is failure only as long as it stops us from moving forth.

Optimists are optimists because they have honed their ability to find silver linings. They always find some reason to be upbeat and view a situation positively. You can do this, too! Tweak your outlook such that you become excellent at detecting minor bits of positivity in any circumstance.

Find the small things about every situation that are encouraging, enlightening, or energizing. Do this habitually, and watch the alchemy as the silver linings turn to gold.

Zoom out

Humans tend to overemphasize the importance of the moment at hand. Sure, it’s the opportunity you have the most access to. It’s right in front of you and ready to be seized.

But if you don’t capitalize, it’s not really that big of a deal. Zoom out!

Remember that there will be more opportunities later on as long as you keep putting yourself in positions to find them!

Don’t stress about this moment and get lost in the pressure. It’s almost certainly not your last or only chance. It’s just a chance to learn and hone your confidence for all that’s ahead!

Less serious, more magical

On a macro level, life is a profound chance to do wildly meaningful things. On the micro level, life is filled with all kinds of crazy moments. If you learn to treat individual moments with peace and joy, you’ll have the best chance of success on a larger scale.

Harmonize with the moment. Understand that not everything is as serious as people want you to believe. And remember to laugh along the way!
